What to bring

Tank requirements

  • Each tank labeled with net lbs of refrigerant, refrigerant type, and clean vs. contaminated/mixed.
  • One refrigerant type per cylinder — don't mix refrigerants in the same tank.
  • DOT-rated recovery cylinders only. Don't overfill — follow the cylinder's rated fill limit (commonly 80% liquid fill).
  • Valves closed and capped before transport.

Refrigerants we take

  • R-22
  • R-410A
  • R-32A2L
  • R-454BA2L
  • R-134a
  • R-407C
  • R-404A

R-32 and R-454B are A2L (mildly flammable) refrigerants. Recover them only into cylinders rated for A2L/flammable refrigerants — marked with a red band (yellow top with red band) and left-hand-thread valve outlets per AHRI Guideline K-2024. Don't mix A2Ls with any other refrigerant in the same cylinder.

Compliance

EPA Section 608, in plain language

  • Knowingly venting refrigerant is prohibited under Clean Air Act Section 608.
  • Technicians who open refrigerant circuits must be EPA Section 608 certified.
  • Recovered refrigerant must go to proper reclamation — not into the air or the trash.
  • Keep your own records of the refrigerant quantities you recover.

Read the rules at epa.gov/section608 . General information, not legal advice.
